Elements of Best Electric Shaver

  • Closeness: This is a top-level factor for many folks. If the electric shaver does not shave close enough, you are not going to be satisfied with electric shavers
  • Comfort and convenience: You are buying your electric shaver to make life easier for you; you are buying the electric shaver to add time to your daily routine of grooming.
  • Technology: Today’s electric shavers are loaded with hi-tech features, which are all groomed to enhance your shaving experience for you each and every day.
  • Speed: You should look for electric shavers that are quick. You should look for shavers that will take you two to three minutes to shave.
  • Battery life: You should expect 50 to 60 minutes of cordless shaving with modern electric shaver models.
  • Durability: The longer the electric shaver lasts, the more you can justify the price. Look for something that is going to last!
  • Budget: Look for an electric shaver that is in your budget. For many people, the price is the shaver is what sells them.

In response to the growing trend, there is an influx of electric shaver models from some of the industry’s biggest manufacturers.

For example,Braun, Panasonic, Remington, and Philips Norelco.

The shavers are hitting store shelves quickly and each of the electric shavers comes with their own unique features to get you to buy them.

Some of the shavers are going to be equipped with rotary heads or multi-directional blades for precision cutting. Others electric shavers out there are going to support dry and wet shaving.

Then you are also going to find some shavers out there that are going to act more like hair and beard trimmers that try to get you to think they are actually a good electric shaver.

The following factors should be considered before choosing your next electric shaver:

  • Coarseness of hair
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Shaving habits
  • Shaving frequency
  • Facial hair particularities
  • Budget

Our First Choice: Braun Series 9 9290cc

The Braun Series 9 9290cc is one of the most popular and electric shavers. The price for replacement cassettes is very reasonably priced. The best part about the 9290cc is the comfort. This is by far the most comfortable, forgiving and gentle electric shaver you can buy.

If you have sensitive skin, suffer from razor burn, rashes or ingrown hairs, the Series 9 is the best electric shaver you can buy. The foils are never going to get hot even after a prolonged use and it will still remain perfectly comfortable.

The shaving head is made up of four different cutting elements: two outer finishing foils and two cutters that are designed to tackle longer, flat-lying hairs that grow in different directions. The specialized cutters for the Series 9 works better than anything used on any other foil shaver. They manage to capture and cut stray, wiry and flat lying hairs very well.

If you shave every two days or more and have problem areas where the hairs grow parallel to the skin and have different grains, the Braun Series 9 is be a very suitable option. The electric shaver has plenty of cutting power and will suitable for dense and coarse beards.

You will get a close shave with the Braun Series 5 but it is not the best.  The Braun Series 9 will give you comfort and closeness but it is not the closest shaving electric shaver you can get. The price is not the best but it is a high-end shaver.

The manual cleaning is fiddly, time-consuming and you cannot really get all the hair clippings and dirt out, which is because of the design of the shaving head, with the foils and blades merged into a single piece that offers limited access for effective cleaning but the cleaning station will take care of everything for you. This electric shaver includes a cleaning base, which is a definite plus.

Our Second Choice: Panasonic ES-LV65-S Arc 5

The quality and performance of Panasonic electric shavers are outstanding. The Panasonic Arc 5 comes with five different cutting elements, is the fastest linear-drive motor in the industry and has very sharp blades.

The Panasonic ES-LV65-S Arc 5 is one of the best electric shavers that you can buy if you want to get a close shave time and time again. Panasonic is the best electric shaver out there when it comes to getting a close shave. It is the closest an electric shaver can get compared to a traditional razor blade.

Panasonic delivers great performance by using extremely thin foils machined with great precision and high quality, sharp blades that feature an aggressive 30 degrees bevel for effective cutting. The motor powering the ES-LV65-S is the fastest. You get the fastest and closest shaving electric shaver with the Panasonic ES-LV65-S Arc 5. If you have a beard, it will have no problem shaving a very coarse beard as well. You have the option to use it with your favorite shaving cream or gel to improve the closeness and the comfort of your shave.

The Panasonic ES-LV65-S is a great electric shaver for a wet shave. Adding shaving cream improves the comfort, which gets you a close shave without any trade-offs in your comfort level. You can get the Panasonic ES-LV65-S with a cleaning station, which comes with a compact cleaning base but it is not necessary because the shaver is easy to clean manually.

The Panasonic ES-LV65-S does very well for a high-end shaver. The foils and blades are a bit pricey. The ES-LV65-S is not great for people that have extremely sensitive skin. The electric shaver does have a hard time capturing longer hairs. The shaving head of the shaver focuses on closeness and not on enhanced capabilities of catching flat lying hairs.

If you have a light beard or you are just getting started with electric shavers, the Panasonic ES-LV65-S with five blades and a huge shaving head is probably too much for you.

Our Third Choice: Braun Series 7 790cc

The Braun Series 7 790cc is the best-selling electric shaver of the past few years. The series was first introduced in the year of 2010 and it gained an iconic status very quickly. The Series 7 has received several updates, which mostly includes cosmetic changes and the intro of some gimmicky features, such as five personalization modes instead of three. The Series 7 790cc seems to be the most reasonably priced and it is also widely available in the Series 7.

It is a good idea to get a Braun Series 7 that comes with an automatic cleaning station because of how the manual cleaning is very time consuming. The station included with the Series 7 790cc is the best that Braun has ever made, as it is the only one that uses induction heating instead of a fan for drying the razor. The drying phase of the cleaning cycle is very short compared to any other cleaning station out there.

The best thing about this line of electric shavers is comfort. Until the launch of the Braun Series 9, the Braun Series 7 was the shaver to beat in terms of comfort. This electric shaver makes it a perfectly suitable option for men with sensitive skin that do not feel like spending a premium price for a Braun Series 9. The difference in closeness in nonexistence but the Braun Series 9 is more enjoyable to use, is more refined and it will shave faster.

If you are not concerned with getting the closest possible shave and want an electric shaver that is a great all-rounder and very gentle to your skin, the Braun Series 7 is a great choice. The electric shaver works best when used daily or every other day. It works well for a foil shaver and is efficient in capturing those flat-lying hairs. The Braun Series 7 has no problem with thick beards. The replacement shaving heads are easily found and the price is reasonable.

Our Fourth Choice: Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc 4

The Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc 4 is the most underrated electric shavers that you can buy today. The electric shavers offer a fantastic performance for a fraction of the price of other high-end electric shavers that are on the market today. The price has dropped significantly on the Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc 4 and the electric shavers now offer a great value for your money. The ES-LA63-S Arc 4 is very well recommended. It is one of the best budget foil shavers that you can find today.

This shaver is has an advanced flexing shaving head with a second vibrating motor. Since Panasonic shavers are very easy to clean manually, the cleaning stations are not a must have. The Arc 4 models do have four individual, slightly curved cutting elements. There are very few times where an Arc 4 shaver is not going to be a suitable choice.

The Arc 4 shavers excel at two things: closeness and speed. The Panasonic Arc 4 is the closest electric shaver you are going to in this price range. For the budget buyers that need an electric shaver that can shave very close, the Panasonic ES-LA63-S is going to be the best option out there for you to get. The large head of the shaver may seem awkward for some to use at first, especially in tight spots, but one will sooner or later get used to using it.

The experience you are going to get with this Panasonic Arch 4 shaver is going to be quite the same Panasonic Arc 5 line. A fifth blade (with the Arc 5 line) is only going to offer diminishing returns but the Arc 5 is going to be a tad more refined and comfortable for you. The Panasonic ES-LA63-S packs a lot of punch, is very reasonably priced. It is also easy to clean manually and will please just about anyone who is looking to get a very close shave without paying a steep price on their next electric shaver.

One downside to this electric shaver is that the replacement foils and blades combo are priced fairly high compared to the competition. The Arc 4 is not going to be as comfortable as a Braun Series 7 or 5. The shaver is more comfortable during a dry shave compared to over shavers because the foils are not going to get too hot when you are using them. As long as you are careful not to press too hard, the ES-LA63-S can be adequately comfortable with a dry shave.

As long you do not have particularly sensitive skin, you should be fine using the Panasonic Arc 4 wet or dry. Another potential problem with the Arc 4 is that it can miss long, flat-lying hairs, especially along you neck or jawline but as long as you shave more often, this can be can eliminated completely. Besides the electric shaver having a vibrating motor inside the head that is supposed to help catching longer hairs, it does not work that way. If you are not able to shave regularly, then this electric shaver is most likely not going to work for you. It should be noted that rotary shavers do not usually shave as close as foil shavers (such as this one).

Our Fifth Choice: Panasonic ES-LF51-A Arc 4

The Panasonic ES-LF51-A Arc 4 is a four-blade foil shaver.  It is very similar to the Panasonic ES-LA63-S.  This shaver does lack the vibrating motor and its shaving head can be depressed instead of the up and down pivoting of the ES-LA63-S.

The shaving performance is this electric shaver is excellent, in particular because of the closeness of the shave. The ES-LF51-A is slightly better than the Panasonic ES-LA63-S. The size of the shaving head may not look that much different but it is a lot easier to manage when you are using it to shave. The electric shaver is more compact and has a nimble shaving head, especially when shaving right below your nose.

This electric shaver allows you to control the shaver with greater precision, making you get a closer shave. The shaver is also quicker compared to the ES-LA-53-S model but it does lack the vibrating feature. The sound this model of electric shaver emits is very clean and crisp.

The ES-LF51-A is definitely powerful enough for dense facial hair and you will appreciate it if you want a very close shave. Cleaning this electric shaver manually is very easy. It does not require anything fancy. In order to clean this electric shaver, you just need to use some warm water and a small amount of liquid soap. When you put the electric shaver in the sonic cleaning mode, it is going to help and you can literally get it perfectly clean in as little as 20 to 30 seconds.

Regarding the cons of this Panasonic ES-LF51-A shaver, they are the same ones that plague any other Panasonic Arc 4 shaver. You are not going to have the most comfortable shaver out there, especially if you are completing a dry shave. If you have sensitive skin, the electric shaver may be too harsh on your skin.

The foils tend to get hot during use. A spray lubricant would work well for this shaver in order to have a comfortable shave and to improve the overall performance of this electric shaver. Using shaving cream or gel is going to make the shaver a lot more forgiving and gentle to your skin – even though most men usually prefer a quick dry shave compared to using shaving cream. If you are not against using shaving cream or gel with electric shavers, the ES-LF51-A will perform great.

Flat hairs do not like this shaver, as with other Panasonic models of shavers. With or without that second vibrating motor, a Panasonic Arc 4 performs poorly. As long as you will not be using the ES-LF51-A on short stubble hairs, you should be fine with this shaver. If you want a close shave, you do not have very sensitive skin and you are likely to be shaving daily for the majority of the time, the Panasonic ES-LF51-A should work very well for you.

Our Sixth Choice:  Braun Series 5 5090cc/5190cc

The Braun Series 5 5090cc/5190cc is a budget-friendly shaver. This model of electric shaver is a more cost-effective alternative to Braun’s Series 7. The electric shaver takes a lot of design cues from the high-end Series 9. It is extremely similar to the Series 9 in terms of proportions, construction and weight. The Series 5 is more subdued and a very nice looking electric shaver.

The long hair trimmer and head locking mechanism of this Series 5 is the same as the ones on the Series 9, which means that there will not be any likely problems with breaking the locking mechanism. The shaving head of the Series 5 is also similar to that of the Series 7.

The Series 5 uses an identical setup, with three individual cutting elements: two finishing foils and one middle trimmer that will capture longer hairs. Performance wise, the Series 5 and the Series 7 are almost identical to one another. The Series 7 is more refined and faster during use but if speed is not an issue, the Series 5 should work perfectly fine for you. The Series 5 will vibrate a lot when cutting the hairs and is going to produce more noise. In terms of closeness and comfort, you are going to get the same results as with the Series 7 shaver.

If you found the Series 7 to be a good match for your shaving needs, but the price was more than what you were wishing to pay, the Series 5 is a good alternative for you to get. The 5090cc is the best option with the Series 5 models as it costs less than other Series 5 models. It also comes with an automatic cleaning and charging station.

Because the shaving performance of the Series 5 is similar to the Series 7, it is one of the best choices for men with sensitive skin that are primarily interested in shaving comfort as opposed to getting a very close shave. The closeness of the Braun Series 5 and 7 is good but a shaver such as the Panasonic Arc 4 will provide you with a closer shave in most cases. The Series 5 has plenty of power to shave a coarse beard. It works great when used on shorter facial hair, so if you shave daily or every other day you should get very good results with this Series 5 electric shaver.

The Braun 5090cc/5190cc is suitable for dry only use. If you use shaving cream or shaving gel, it is not going to do much for the Braun Series 5 or Series 7 in terms of improving the results you are going to get. This electric shaver is very comfortable during a dry shave and the closeness will not be improved to a significant degree in the case of a wet/dry model.

Regarding the price, the Series 5 5090cc does very. This shaver costs less than a Series 7 with similar features and the replacement shaving head is also cheaper. The Series 5 is a more affordable Series 7 shaver that really delivers on the expectations.

Our Seventh Choice:  Philips Norelco 8900

with SmartClean

The Philips Norelco 8900 with SmartClean is one of the best rotary razors when it comes to getting the most bang for your buck. The 8900 from Philips Norelco is available with or without a cleaning station. It offers performance similar to the much more expensive Series 9000 razors – and it costs only a fraction of the price of the higher end models. You get the same shaver but some of the features as left out.

The speed settings, fancy displays and the fancy design are left out of this Norelco model but you still get a great electric shaver for a superb price. The actual shaving performance of this Norelco 8900 electric shaver still remains top notch, as you expect with the brand of Philips Norelco. The Norelco 8900 uses the same cutting heads as the more expensive 9300 and 9700 models.

The automatic cleaning station called SmartClean is optional but it is highly recommend you to get it as it works excellent and the price difference between the two variants is not that high at all. The SmartClean stations are reasonably fast, quiet and are very economical. The cleaning station solution lasts longer compared to the Panasonic and Braun brands.

Being a rotary electric shaver, the Norelco 8900 has some specific advantages over most foil shavers that are in the market today. Rotary razors are able to capture and cut difficult facial hair. The shaving unit comes with the three individual cutting heads which can flex and adapt to the contours of your face. When you use a combo of rotary and straight strokes with the electric shaver, the hairs can be captured very efficiently removed.

If you tend to shave less often and you have a lot of flat-lying hairs, a rotary shaver like the Norelco 8900 can be one of the best options for you to get. This electric shaver is one of the most comfortable rotary razors in the market today and it will not pinch your skin or pull the hairs you are trying to remove.

In general, rotary razors are considered to be more suitable for coarse facial hair than foil shavers are. While this is mostly true in the case of very basic electric shavers that are out there, the Philips Norelco 8900 is even adequate for shaving thick beards.

The closeness you get with this shaver is good for a rotary shaver. Foil shavers are the ones to have but if you want a rotary shaver this is a good one for you use. You just get a closer shave with a foil shaver compared to rotary shavers but there are a lot of men that prefer rotary shavers.

The price of the Philips Norelco 8900 is definitely a mid-range shaver. The SH90 replacement shaving heads are a bit pricier but similar to the ones needed for a Panasonic Arc 4. A high-quality rotary razor like the Philips Norelco 8900 can be an great choice for men that do not shave often and have wiry, thick whiskers that grow in different directions.

Our Eighth Choice: Panasonic ES-LT41-K Arc 3

The Panasonic ES-LT41-K Arc 3 is an affordable electric shaver. The Arc 3 electric shavers have a three-blade shaving system showcasing the same arched profile of the foils. The Panasonic Arc 3 features a three-blade shaving system.

There are other Arc 3 models besides those that will perform identical, so as long as you see that the shaver will use the 13,000 CPM motors you should be good to go. This Panasonic model is the best model of the Arc 3 line and it is the most reasonably priced of them all.

This is an entry-level shaver and the price should be a big factor when you are making your pick. This electric shaver is one of the best affordable foil shavers that are on the market today. With a sharp motor and blades which made of solid construction, this model offers great performance and is a good value for money you are going to pay for it.

You get a close shave and likely the closest shave you are going to get for this great of a price tag. The powerful 13,000 cycles per minute motor and the high-quality blades make it suitable for a coarse beard.

Shaving light or medium facial hair is a non-issue with the Panasonic Arc 3. The ES-LT41-K can cause some issues if you have sensitive skin.

The foils can also get too hot which may cause some discomfort on some people but these shortcomings can be minimized by lubricating the blades on a regular basis and by using a pre-shave lotion with each shave. It is a good idea to use a quality shaving cream with this electric shaver to keep the comfort level at bay. Most men prefer to shave dry but Panasonic electric shavers seem to perform very well during a wet shave. To get the most out of this model, shaving more often would be a very effective solution.

The ES-LT41-K can usually be found at a very competitive price. The replacement foil and blades combos cost less than the four- or five-blade Panasonic parts and they are widely available. The ES-LT41-K is a great choice for beginners because it is dead easy to clean and to operate.

This electric shaver is fully waterproof, the shaving head is very slim and nimble and the shavers themselves can really take a beating. If you have very sensitive skin, you most likely do not want to get this electric shaver.

Our Ninth Choice: Braun Series 3 3040s ProSkin

The Braun Series 3 is an entry-level family of electric shavers. They are a competitor to Panasonic’s Arc 3 electric shavers. The highlights of the Series 3 shavers are the affordable price and the comfort during the shave. Both the shavers and the replacement shaving heads cost less than the corresponding Arc 3 parts from Panasonic.

While the closeness with this electric shaver is not as good, the Series 3 is more comfortable and gentler to the skin compared to a Panasonic Arc 3. There are several Series 3 models, ranging from dry only models that include a cleaning station to wet/dry models like the 3040s – which is the brand we are recommending here.

The Braun Series 3 3040s is one of the best electric shavers in the entry-level market you can find. The 3040s comes at a great price, can be used wet or dry and the basic shaving head is easier to clean manually compared to the Series 5, 7 or 9 models. A cleaning station is not a must-have with the Braun Series 3.

Other cheaper Series 3 models lack features such as a long hair trimmer. Whichever Series 3 you end up choosing, the shaving performance will be identical, so selecting the best Series 3 model for you comes down to the price and some of the features that you think you will need in your next electric shaver.

As with most electric shavers, the dry only models can be operated when they are plugged in, while the wet/dry ones cannot be used when they are plugged in due to safety concerns. The 3040s and all Series 3 model shavers seem to work best when used daily or every other day.

Longer hairs will cause problems to most basic foil shavers, including this Series 3 model. So, if you do not shave often, do not get this electric shaver. You get a very comfortable shave with this electric shaver and the foils will remain cool during your shave.

The Braun Series 3 is also a great option if you have sensitive skin. If you are mainly interested in getting a very close shave, this is probably not the best shaver for you; a Panasonic Arc 3 will perform better in most cases to get you a close shave.

If you have very coarse facial hair, the Series 3 will sooner or later get the job done but it will take you longer to shave and it will not be that enjoyable. If you have coarse facial hair, you should look at a more powerful electric shaver like the Series 5 or a Panasonic Arc 4.

Our Tenth Choice: Philips Norelco Shaver 3100

The Philips Norelco Shaver 3100 is a best-seller in its category. The electric shaver is a basic and inexpensive rotary shaver that is suitable to be used for a dry only use – it should not be used with a wet shave. While the Braun Series 3 and the Panasonic Arc 3 are the go-to options for an affordable foil shaver, the Norelco 3100 is a worthy contender from the rotary camp of electric shavers.  There are many people that like the Norelco 3100 better than the Braun or Panasonic models in the same category.

The Philips Norelco 3100 shaver works well in capturing and cutting longer, flat-lying hairs, especially the ones that you may find on your neck. The Philips Norelco Shaver 3100 is a very decent and inexpensive rotary shaver. Many times, the more advanced an electric shaver is, the better it will cope with getting rid of difficult facial hair.

But with a rotary razor, even a basic one such as the Philips Norelco 3100, can perform surprisingly well in a situation like this. With the Norelco 3100, the closeness you get is not going to be as good compared to what you will get from a Panasonic Arc 3; the Norelco 3100 will make it simpler for you to get all those stray hairs that a foil shaver will likely leave behind.

The Norelco 3100 is also comfortable during the shave, so it can be a good choice if you do not have overly sensitive skin. Even though the Norelco 3100 performs very well for the pride you are paying for the electric shaver, you should not assume the electric shaver to do anything spectacular for you.

The Norelco 3100 is still a very basic shaver. If you want an electric shaver that is faster and that is going to have more power to it, you are going to have to spend more money on something, such as the Philips Norelco 8900.

The pop-up trimmer is definitely welcome addition with this affordable model. There are some Norelco shavers that are more expensive and you are going to have to pay more for this nice option of a pop-up trimmer.

The SH30/52 replacement shaving heads for this Norelco 3100 cost about the same as the foils and blades of other entry-level shavers such as the Series 3 and Arc 3 electric shavers. If you are looking for a very affordable electric shaver, you shave less often and have wiry, flat-lying facial hairs on your face and neck, the Philips Norelco 3100 can be a very good starting point for you to use for your daily needs of grooming. If a close shave is important, the Norelco 3100 is not going to be the best fit for you.

Our Eleventh Choice: Remington F5-5800

The Remington F5-5800 is an electric foil shaver. The model has an attached trimmer, has a pivoting head and a quick-charge feature. If you want to get a clean and smooth shave, it does not always mean that you have to get the most expensive electric shaver that is out there.

Remington’s popular foil shaver, the Remington F5-5800 is living proof that you can earn professional shaves at a budget value. The Remington electric shaver features an intercept trimmer that sits between the two foils and seizes longer hairs with fewer passes over your face. When you combine the electric shaver with an integrated pop-up trimmer for shape-ups and patented Pivot and Flex technology that seamlessly follows every angle and curve on your face, it is impossible to overlook this oscillating facial hair remover.

Remington has cornered both the entry level and mid-level electric shavers. It is the first cordless recharging model for the shaving tools. Just like the name suggests, the Remington F5-5800 foil shaver features two foils, and one trimmer mounted on the head of the electric shaver. The flexible head on the electric shaver can tilt upward and downward in order to easily move around the contours of your face for a simple and smooth performance time and time again.

Cleaning the Remington F5-5800 is fast and with no much effort at all. All you need to do in order to clean the shaver is to simply unmount the head of the shaver and rinse it with water. This is the best electric shaver you are going to find for a price of under $50.

Our Twelfth Choice: Philips Norelco Shaver 5700 with Turbo Mode

The Philips Norelco Shaver 5700 with Turbo Mode has multi-directional flex heads, comes with a smart cleaning system and has a turbo mode.  Instant shaving is an attribute most men want from their electrical groomer, which is pretty much what you are going to get with the Philips Norelco 5700.

The model of Philips Norelco electric shaver comes at a budget-friendly price that you are really going to like to get your grooming needs completed each and every day. The electric shaver is going to accomplish this with a Turbo-powered mode that is going to mow through dense parts of your beard when it is activated.

The electric shaver uses its singular MultiPrecision blade system in order to tackle facial fuzz, working alongside five-direction Flex Heads in order to lift hair and then cut long and short stands with swift execution. Dry shavers can make the most of the shaver’s wet and dry technology in order to dig in without slapping water on your face. The accompanying smart clean system is what really sweetens the deal by cleaning, lubricating and charging the electric shaver for all day, everyday use.

All in all, the Wahl Professional 8061-100 is a good and efficient choice for shaving on a daily basis and is ideal for people with sensitive skin due to its antimicrobial protection. People who travel a lot will benefit from this model’s fantastic battery life. All things considered, this electric shaver represents a fantastic value for money you will be spending on it. Finally it earned its place in the best electric shavers list.

Our Fourteenth Choice: Philips Norelco 4500

The Philips Norelco 4500 gives you a comfortable and smooth shave. For electric shavers, Phillips identified their target market and had since gone on to corner that market niche. Their strategy involves only producing low-level and mid-level rotary shavers and completely leaving out foil shavers. Lots of resources have gone into their strategy to make sure they put out advanced low-level and mid-level rotary shavers.

The electric shaver is the perfect choice for people who have a low budget and prefer rotary electric shavers over foil shavers. The Norelco 4500 comes with lots of handy features and few drawbacks.

It features dry and wet technology, as well as PowerTouch feature and a pop-up trimmer. The wet and dry technology is going to allow for shaving a completely dry face or a lubricated face with shaving cream, water, soap and other lubricants.

The pop-up trimmer on the electric shaver can trim or completely get rid of mustaches, sideburns, and other facial hair that you may have. The electric shaver has flexible head pivots, flexes, and floats to follow every contour across your face in order to remain close to your skin for a fast and gentle shave. The head of the electric shaver also features the DualPrecision technology that is going to allow the shaver to tackle both long hair and short stubble length hair to help you enjoy a comfortable and close shave each and every day.

The Norelco 4500 features a great battery life; a fully charged battery is going to provide you with 50 to 60 minutes of shaving time that will comfortably give you ten or more full shaves. When it comes to charging the shaver, the battery takes about eight hours in order to fully charge and features a three-minute emergency quick charge that will give you a full cordless shave.

The dual precision shaving technology will cut both long and short hair. The shaver uses wet and dry technology giving you the option of using shaving cream and other lubricants while shaving. The pop-up trimmer will cut sideburns, mustaches and other facial hair.

The shaver is budget friendly and comfortable to use. If you have sensitive skin, the Norelco 4500 electric shaver is a good pick for you. The battery takes eight full hours in order to charge completely.

The Philips Norelco 4500 is a mid-tier electric shaver that is good for people who are willing to spend a reasonable amount of money on a rotary shaver to get the very best of features. Since rotary shavers were produced for comfort and smoothness, this shaver guarantees just that. When using this electric shaver, you should avoid pressing it too hard on your skin. When shaving, you should apply slight pressure and let the electric shaver do all of the work for you.

Our Fifteenth Choice: Philips Norelco 6100

The Philips Norelco 6100 is a rotary shaver. The shaver uses the Gyroflex 2D feature which adjusts the shaver’s head seamlessly in order to cover every curve and contour of your face. This feature helps minimize the pressure you apply on your skin and subsequently reduces irritation.

The DualPrecision heads in the Norelco 6100 are equipped with slots in order to help shave both long hairs and the shortest stubble to give a close and comfortable shave with complete accuracy and coverage. The heads are designed with holes to shave off short stubble length hair and slots to shave off the normal length hairs.

The shaver has a lift and cut dual-blade system that works by lifting hair that is below the skin level to cut comfortably. The final cutting mechanism is the precision trimmer which is ideal for trimming or completely cutting sideburns and a mustache. For best results, you should replace the shaving head after one year of use with an RQ11/52 replacement head.

The shaver’s aquatic technology gives the convenience of allowing you to either shave dry or use lubrication to provide extra protection for the skin, which is really good if you have extra sensitive skin.

The battery will make sure that you get the most out of the Philips Norelco 6100. Just one hour of charging will provide up to 40 to 50 minutes of shaving time, which is equal to nine or more shaves. There is also a three-minute emergency quick-charging option which will give you a full shave.

There is not an automatic self-cleaning feature with this shaver. The Norelco 6100 is a mid-level electric shaver. This shaver will leave you happy not only because of its top features and price but because it will give you the ultimate close and smooth shave.

How to Choose the Best Electric Shaver

Electric shaver varies in price, preference, personal need, the features it contains and the quality of that product, but with all these taken into consideration, one should consider the following factors before choosing.

The strength of the motor:

The electric shaver should have a strong and powerful motor. Therefore, before you recharged your shaver, it should be able to run and served you for the longest time without any problems.

Maintenance cost:

If you want to get the best experience with you shaver, make sure they have the scissors and comb attachments that make grooming complete. If the shaver doesn’t have these accessories, then don’t waste time purchasing it. The best electric shaver comes with as many accessories as possible for easy maintenance.

The design

The design of the electric shaver is vital to consider. A well-designed shaver must be easy to use and handle. However, if the shaver isn’t well designed, e.g., if it is too heavy, it won’t be comfortable to use.

One should pay attention to the warranty period before buying a product. For this kind of products, the average manufacturer’s warranty period should be one year while other manufacturer’s warranty as high as three years.

Price is a factor in almost any product. The electric shaver listed in this guide varies in prices, depending on the number of features and versatility. Therefore, regardless of what you decide to go for, make sure it is within your budget.

How to Maintain your Electric Shaver

Do you know that some basic care and maintenance can keep your shaver working at their best for a long time? Let’s take a look at some maintenance tips that will enable you to get the most out of your shaver:

Clean the blades

Make sure you brush away all the loose hairs and debris from the blade area before you begin to cut your hair or anyone else’s hair. The good news is that many shavers come with their own cleaning kit and clipper brush; if not, you can purchase them, or even use an old hard toothbrush to get into all the nooks and crannies of the blades.

Align the blade

This step is essential for professional barbers. A curved blade, or loose tooth, can quickly produce nicks and cuts. Hold the clipper sideways to check the alignment and look down its length. The shaver blade should be straight, and there shouldn’t be any teeth pointing. In many cases, you may have to use a small screwdriver to loosen the blade screws to wiggle it back into place.

Changing the blade

Changing the blade isn’t complicated, but this doesn’t happen all the time if you’ve adequately maintained your shaver blade. Although, there may come a time when you need a new blade; like when you accidentally drop it or damage the blade’s teeth. It’s best to have a spare blade on hand, so you don’t interrupt your workflow.

Spray keeps the shavers blades cool while also disinfecting it. Additionally, it reduces wear and tear on the shaver blade and protects against rust. You’re legally required to have clipper spray in the shop if you’re a professional barber.

Oil it

You must oil your shaver after every use to keep the device running smoothly for many years. It’s easy and only takes a few drops of oil on each corner of the moving blade, in the middle, and on the blade teeth. Then turn your shaver on and let it work for a few seconds to allow the oil to spread evenly. Clean any excess oil, and you’ll be ready to get back to work.

Investing in high-quality electric shaver will help you get the job done right whether they’re for a home or professional use. The shavers we mentioned above are easily the best when it comes to grooming tools, and any barber should be proud to rock any of these shavers as their weapon of choice.

Therefore, before you select an electric shaver, consider your needs, the amount of money you can spend on it and the brand of whose product you want to pick. Overall, we hope that this guide on best electric shavers for barber will help you in making an informed decision.

Electric Razor Reviews – 2018 Top Electric Razors

Ever since the first electric shavers were invented in the first three decades of the last century, men have enjoyed a pleasant alternative to the boring and oftentimes even dangerous ritual of morning shaving.

Those who use an electric razor would agree that shaving with one of these gadgets is much easier and convenient.

Electric shavers are considered both helpful and practical because, unlike ordinary manual razors, using them does not result in cuts, nicks, or skin irritation.

Most of the new models are equipped with fast rotary blades that are said to reduce the total shaving time by up to 50 percent.

In addition, today’s electric shavers can be used just about anywhere and at any time you like.

Below is our top 5 electric razors reviews available on the market this summer.

Our 1st Choice: Braun Series 9293 Electric Razor

If you have used electric razors in the past, you probably are quite familiar with Braun, the German company that has been in the forefront of electric razor technology ever since 1930s, when Max Braun developed its first prototype of electric shaver.

Today’s fans of electric razors from Vancouver to Vladivostok unanimously agree that Braun Series 9 models are the holy grail of electric razors, offering their user build, comfort and performance second to none. The first contact with a Series 9 razor is very special, because the user immediately realizes he has got something truly unique in his hands. This electric razor is made from chrome-finished plastic so, however sleek it may look, it is quite robust and well built.

Exceptionally Close Shave

Its number one advantage over the competition is the extremely close shave that it delivers. This close shave is the result of Braun’s use a four-way shear system combining floating grills with four cutting elements and two Optifoil foils, to come very close to a traditional shave. Braun says a Series 9 razor can perform as many as 40,000 cross-cutting actions per minute to give its user a truly-exceptional shaving experience. The series offers wet and dry models. As the name suggests, the former can be used with shaving foam, while the latter cannot. All the 92xx models are wet & dry and can be used with shaving foam or gel.

Cleaning and Battery Life

First and foremost it should be mentioned here that all the models ending in “cc” come with a cleaning and charging station, whereas those ending in “s” are offered without a cleaning station. I would personally recommend a cc razor, because the cleaning station gets all of the hairs out of the blades and simultaneously disinfects them while your razor is recharging.

Believe it or not, but it can automatically determine how dirty your razor is and select the best cleaning program. The razors from this series can go about 60 minutes on a single charge, plus five-minute “emergency charge” feature which gives you a little extra time in case you may need such.

Foil Cutter Head Replacement Cassette

Braun recommends that that the cutter and foil cassette should be replaced every 9 or 18 months. However, some users of the original Series 9 shavers have complain that the cutting head goes blunt much earlier than the promised period. Braun says the newer replacement head, model 92s, is titanium coated and has been redesigned so as to better withstand the power of the razor. It costs about $55 to replace.

Our Second Choice:The Panasonic Arc5 ES-LV9N-S

The Panasonic experts have applied state-of-the art blade technology to the Panasonic ARC5 Series razors to give their users a unique shaving experience with precision blades of extraordinary strength and performance. The Panasonic Arc5 ES-LV9N-S, ES-LV95-S & ES-LV81-K razors are said to be the Rolls Royce machines in the world of men’s electric shavers, despite their relatively high retail price.

The World’s First Five-Blade Electric Razor

The Panasonic ES-LV models are the world’s first 5-blade linear electric razors. They are foil shavers, designed with five arched cutting elements.

This technology offers its users a smooth and pleasant shave, as close as the one provided by the Braun Series 9 razors.

The powerful wet/dry, ARC 5-blade system combines tailored shaving performance with multi-blade precision to gently cut through facial hair for consistently smooth results. The super-sharp Nanotech™ blades and ARC foils are forged from premium Japanese stainless steel.

Each of its floating stainless-steel blades is honed to a perfect 30-degree angle for exceptional durability and sharpness.

Minor Disadvantages

The reason why we rank this razor behind Braun Series 9 is that it feels a bit heavier and bulkier in the hand, compared to its closest rival and its larger head is bit more difficult to maneuver. Also Panasonic ES-LV95-S (the older model) used to give a slightly too aggressive shave. The Panasonic team has fixed this by adding gold rollers on their latest models (ES-LV9N-S, ES-LV9A-S, ES-LV9B-S) right next to the cutting elements. The rollers allow the razor to glide smoothly over the user’s face offering an exceptional shave without irritation.

Personalized Comfort

If you are one of those men that religiously shave their face every single morning, while at the same time you want to keep your skin fresh and youthful, then the Panasonic Arc 5 ES-LV9N-S, with its gold rollers, might be the perfect electric razor for you.  As you shave, an advanced 3D Multi-Flex™ Pivoting Head flexes up-and-down, side-to-side and back-and-forth, following the individual contours of your face, neck and jaw to give you the most comfortable shave at the beginning of your day.

High-End Performance

Powered by a highly-efficient 14,000 CPM linear-drive motor, this Panasonic razor also boasts a beard sensor that automatically adjusts power levels to match varying beard densities on the face, chin and neck. And when shaving is done, a pop-up trimmer adds the perfect touch to sideburns and mustaches.

100% Waterproof

When you are in a hurry, this razor provides a surprisingly quick and smooth dry shave. As it is designed to be 100% washable, it performs quite efficiently in the shower or over the sink using your favorite shaving foam or gel.

Our Third Choice: Philips S9311

Staunch fans of electric razors know that there are those who prefer foil shavers and those who go for rotary razors. For the latter group, the Norelco Series 9000 shavers are the ultimate shaving machines out there.

Astonishing Design

To start with, this electric razor has an astonishing body shape featuring a nicely-contoured grip, making it extremely easy to maneuver the razor around your face, while at the same time it offers an exceptionally close shave.

Philips’ Revolutionary Contour Detecting Technology

What makes this electric razor stand out in the crowd is its 8-direction ContourDetectHeads. Thanks to this revolutionary technology, the shaver’s head, consisting of three replaceable cutting heads, is elevated above its body where the three rotary blades can pivot, flex and tilt much easier than on a traditional electric razor.

The cutting heads should be replaced every year or so. Each of them has 3 layers of grooves, which are designed and positioned so as to be able to get all of the different types of hair which grow on a man’s face.

Cleaning Dock

The cleaning dock for the Norelco 9000 series, which Philips calls the SmartClean system is rather bulky, but it is otherwise quite efficient. The manufacturer recommends to clean your Philips Norelco razor after each use, as failing to do so will significantly decrease its performance.

Charging Options

Philips says the battery of the Norelco 9000 series takes about sixty minutes to charge, adding that a fully-charged battery provides the user with about fifty minutes of shaving time The quick-charge option allows you to charge the razor for five minutes and get enough power for a 3-minute shave. You can charge your electric shaver using the cleaning dock, which simultaneously cleans and charges the device, or through its power adapter.

Either way, the battery takes one hour to fully charge. The screen displays the battery charge progress as a series of five bars with each bar representing about 20% of power. When the fifth bar stops blinking, then the shaver can be removed from the cleaning station or the power adapter.

Our Fourth Choice: Braun Series 9290

The Braun Series 9 is а smart electric razor with four synchronized shaving elements that is said to be capable of shaving in one stroke what other shavers do in two. This series boasts an innovative sonic technology and an intelligent AutoSensing motor, which enable the razor to shave even dense beards with astounding efficiency.

The 5 Turbo-/Sensitive-Modes adjust the shaver for extra power and gentleness at a push of a button.

Long-Running Tradition

These razors have been around for seventeen long years now and have many loyal followers around the globe. The Braun Series 9 provides the best balance in terms of performance and value for money. If you do not insist on having the latest shaver and want something proven over the years, then the Braun Series 7 might be the perfect electric razor for you.

Five Shaving Modes

The Series 9 shavers boast a fully flexible pivoting head that follows the contours of your face with ease. The latest series 9 models feature five separate shaving modes, whereas the older models feature only three. The modes allow you to choose between, aggressive shaving for heavily bearded individuals, normal mode, and an extra sensitive mode for those with sensitive skin, plus two intermediary modes. Whichever mode you choose, be advised that if you press too hard while shaving, you may feel some burn on the skin of your face.

8-D Flexible Shaving System

The 8 directional flexible shaver head follows even the most complex facial contours. The latest models in this series are also equipped with individually floating foils and trimmer, mounted on a pivoting head with Micro and MacroMotion. It makes skin contact as close as 0.05 mm.

Upgraded Models

Braun recently updated the series 7 line of electric razors with several new models.  While the older models start with the prefix 77xx, the latest ones start with 78xx.  As far as we could see, the changes are effectively cosmetic, without any factual performance improvements. Other than some design differences, the newer models can be used with shaving foams and gels, while the older versions did not support this feature.  Also, the newer models have five personalization shaving modes, while the older ones have only three.

Clean & Charge Station

The series boast the world‘s only 4-action alcohol-based clean and charge station that lubricates your electric razor while charging it.

Your Braun Series 7 electric razor comes with an innovative clean and charge station, a spare cleaning cartridge, a smart plug-in adapter, plus a travel pouch and a cleaning brush.

Our Fifth Choice: Braun CoolTec Men’s Shaving System

Although ranked number five on our list, the Braun Cool Tec shaver is the first to ever integrate an aluminum “cooling bar”, designed to reduce the effect that is widely known as razor burn – the burning and irritation some men get even by quality electric razors.

The cooling bar also reduces moisture and lessens tension in the skin in order to help deliver a smooth shave and cool the skin afterwards, thus soothing any irritation that may occur. Happy users say that the cooling bar is like having an ice block against your skin as you shave, adding that it feels really nice even if you do not typically suffer from razor burn.

Not the Closest Shave Ever

The Braun CoolTec is not a rotary shaver. It has only three cutting elements on, two of which move independently to give the user a decent shave. However, our testers noticed that it is not quite as close as the more expensive Braun Series 9. Ultimately, that’s one of the trade-offs you have to make for the razor’s lower price. There is one important thing to mention about this Braun model and namely that you cannot use it with any shaving foams, gels or lotions.

Clean and Renew Station

The Clean & Renew system makes the maintenance of your Braun shaver a piece of cake. All you have to do is properly install the cleaning cartridge, place your shaver in the unit and press the start button. The system automatically commences the cleaning process. After cleaning is done, the station lubricates your razor to ensure that all of its moving parts function in absolute harmony. After lubrication is completed, the cleaning unit will finally charge your shaving device.

To maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the cleaning process, you have to keep a good supply of cleaning cartridges handy, though your CoolTec can still be cleaned under running water with the enclosed cleaning brush just as well. The cartridge packs that work with the Braun CoolTec contain alcohol, which will hygienically remove bacteria and grime from your electric razor and give it a fresh lemon scent. If you use the cleaning function at least twice a week a brand new cleaning cartridge should be installed every ninety days.

Battery Life

The internal rechargeable battery takes one hour to fully charge and lasts about 45 minutes, or for a good one-and-a-half weeks’ worth of shaves. The cooling feature can be used for up to 15 minutes on a single charge. The LED display indicates the status of your razor and will keep you updated about the charging level, or if the battery is about to die down. It also shows the hygiene status and tells you when it is time to clean your device.

What to Look for When Buying an Electric Razor

An excellent electric razor may be the most important men’s companion when it comes to effective personal hygiene. In the world of men’s hygiene, it can be quite difficult to choose between all of the different brands on the market and find the razor that is the right shaving device for you – there are razors with two, three, four or five blades; foil or rotary; wet/dry, precision heads, flex motion, etc.

There’s no way to navigate your way through all of the competing ad claims and confusing descriptions without trying them all.  We know very well that finding the electric shaver to best fit your specific skin type, facial hair, and personal preferences can be an arduous task. Choosing an excellent electric razor is a process that should be governed by a number of important factors including comfort, ease of cleaning, the closeness of the shave provided, shaving performance, overall value for the manufacturer’s asking price, and durability.

By taking all of these factors into consideration, our team produced the above comprehensive list highlighting the top 5 electric razors released on the market in June 2018. Our selection standard is highly professional and objective. For your convenience, the above chart provides an estimated retail price of each of the discussed electric razor models. As with everything else, a quality electric razor comes at a relatively high price and, as you can see, our champion costs nearly five hundred dollars.

However, there are some heavy-duty electric shavers that do an excellent job and are in the more convenient price range of $150-$300. So, when you are looking to buy and electric shaver, always set your budget first before reading about your options and seeing what is out there. The blades are also important. Top electric shavers have at least 3 blade options and come equipped with a pop out trimmer. Having said that, we think that our # 3 pick, the Philips Norelco Series S931,1 offers the best efficiency, precision and comfort of shaving for its retail price.

Reasons to Switch to an Electric Razor

Electric shavers are so easy to use. What’s great is that they’re also extremely convenient. They travel well, and can be used for a dry shave when needed.

Shave time

The time it takes to shave is cut down significantly due to the shaving elements of electric shavers. They’re designed to cut hair in one stroke (mostly) to save time.

No Cuts!

The annoying nicks and cuts you get from a blade are eliminated. That alone saves time… and tissue.

Reduction of skin irriation

No one wants razor burn, and now your chances of getting it are slim to none.

Cost efficient

Electric shavers are by no means “cheap.” However, the price you pay for one is going to actually save you money in the long. You won’t need to be constantly replacing blades, or the razor.

The “Not so Great” Aspects

We strive to bring you trusted reviews, so clearly we’re not going to leave you in the dark when it comes to the cons of an electric shaver.

  • Not so close- Electric shavers are known to give great shaves, but they’re not the best at providing extremely close ones.
  • Charging- They will need to be charged frequently, which can be tedious. Finding a lifeless shaver when you’re in a hurry can certainly put a damper in your day.
  • Price– Some electric shaver prices may make your jaw drop, but they’re pricey for a good reason. The quality, speed, and design are worth the extra dollar (or 50).
  • Noise- The continuous buzzing is clearly something you don’t need, or want, to deal with when using a classic razor.

If you’re ready to take the plunge on an electric shaver, we’ve got the best of the best just a click away.

Additional Things To Consider

An electric shaver is the way to go in getting a satisfying shave. Electric shavers have different features depending on the product which you prefer. Before making a purchase, it is important for you to understand the electric shavers; plus the service they can offer to you. Let’s look at key aspects to consider before you purchase an electric shaver for men:

Foil versus rotary

This is a very important aspect to put into consideration when purchasing an electric shaver for men. This is because, for a foil shaver, it gives you a cleaner plus smoother shave in areas of your face that need little to no contouring.

Although due to its design, it is not able to contour your face as well as a rotary shaver can.

Rotary shaver allows you to shave in circular motion, this you cannot do with a foil shaver. For foil shaver, you can either shave in rectangular or square design.

Therefore, the foil shaver is not able to do well in areas on your face that have problems. The foil shaver will only allow you to move up and down or left to right, this is a personal preference in choosing the kind of shaver to have.

Cordless Vs Corded

When getting a shaver, you can either choose one that is corded or cordless, or the products can be used in both ways.

They both have their own pros and cons, for instance, corded products do not rely on internal battery source so as to have a shave.

It offers the same performance because of the output. When it comes to a cordless shaver, you are able to use it in different angles. You will not have a cord on your way during shaving.

With this feature, your decision on a certain electric shaver can either be made or broken. A dry razor can be used on your skin when the skin is dry.

However, for a Wet Dry Technology, your face can be lubricated with foam or gel when you are using the shaver.

This gives a cleaner plus a smoother shave, this feature needs to be considered although it’s a preference feature.

How easy can you use it and how comfortable it is, is another aspect to consider when getting the best electric shaver for men. When it comes to comfort, the more comfortable you are in using it the better your shaving experience. The overall comfort of a shaver is increased when the product is straightforward and easy to use.

Cleaning stations

When buying an electric shaver, its ease of cleaning is something that you need to consider.

Some products have a cleaning and a storage station thus making maintenance of your product easy.

That said, there are products that require you to manually clean it, therefore, you will not need this feature. In the event that you will need a product that is easy to maintain, this feature is suitable.

Our Final Say

Let’s face it, no man likes spending precious time in the morning grooming his face hair to prepare for his day ahead. Purchasing an electric razor is a solution to minimize the impact on your daily grind. An electric shaver will not only help you save time, but it will also help you keep looking your best.

All of the electric razors discussed in this review are waterproof, so you can use any of them dry or in the shower. You will love their incredible charge to use ratio and that they are capable of such a close shave. All of them come with a clean and charge station that keeps your device clean, lubricated, and charged. Why look anywhere else? If you want to save time and keep your facial hair looking better than ever, we recommend buying an electric shaver without further delay.

Of course there are those who have never been inclined to think that an electric razor could come any close to a manual one in terms of shaving efficiency. We advise them to try to get a free, promotional electric razor and give it a shot. You can first try it on your four-day-grown beard that you have first trimmed down a bit.

Most of the electric razor pessimist complain that shaving with one of these takes longer than with a manual razor and does not get as close either. Also, they say that using an electric shaver does not fully prevent you from getting skin irritation. So, if you are still frowning at your electric shaving device after the tenth try, perhaps you had better return it to the retailer and go back to the good old-fashioned manual razor.
