Phillips Norelco 7000 Review | Top Features & User Rating

The Phillips Norelco 7000 features a 5-minute quick charge, steel frame, and proprietary Dualcut technology. It is considered to be one of the most advanced trimmers on the market. Yet, is it really worth the hype?

In this detailed review, we will look into its top features, battery life, and why you should or shouldn’t buy this shaver. Finally, we will find out is it better than its successor, the Norelco 9000?

The Norelco is considered a multigroom shaver and for good reason. If you are looking to shave your face as well as other areas, then this shaver will serve you well.

The 7000 utilizes stainless-steel shavers with a .55 minimum of shaving capacity. The blades sharpen themselves, by rubbing close together, keeping your razor-sharp.

Without lubrication or any care on your end, they can do this for 3 years and that it something indeed. They are designed to last and that is exactly what they do.

Top Features

5 Hour Battery life

This is one of our favorite categories. There are so many products out there that will spend so much time charging that they simply aren’t worth your while. The Norelco 7000 is quite a superior performer in this vein.

While it lists that you should charge for 2 hours to get 5 hours of battery life, our testing found that a new model will fully charge in about an hour.

If you’ve forgotten to charge, a quick 5 to 10-minute charge will usually power the unit enough to give you a quick shave. The lithium-ion battery on this unit is astounding and it shows.

Durable & Easy To Handle

We found this to be a superior shaver, even for the toughest whiskers. While this model is heavier than most shavers, the stainless steel construction proves to be both durable and easy to handle.

With the self-sharpening blades, you’ll get about 3 years at the minimum for your investment, and Phillips Norelco has really outdone themselves with this model. There is a reason that this is listed as a top shaver and it is well-earned.

Wireless

While it is toted as a wireless shaver, the Norelco 7000 can be used both wireless or plugged in. This is a good thing, as you can use it whenever you like whether it is charged or not. We found that this unit was good for not only the face but for body detailing as well. It safely cuts only the hair and performs as expected for body detail.

Stainless Steel Frame

No one wants to admit it, but you are going to drop the razor. The framework design helps to make sure that when you do your razor will be just fine.  After you drop it, you can pick it right back up and shave with confidence. You’d have to try very hard to damage it and that is the kind of craftsmanship you can really appreciate in a product.

Non Corrosive

It is not just the frame that is durable. The blades are non-corrosive steel and they do their job, cutting through hair effortlessly. You can shave as much or as little as you like quite easily, it’s almost like a ‘humming eraser’ in this aspect.

Easy to clean

All of the attachments are easily cleaned with water, at no detriment to the unit. So you can keep all of the attachments pristine.

Caveats

When it comes to ‘all in one’ grooming solutions, this razor is a fine investment. From user reviews, we only found one problem. Do NOT lose your guards. Replacing them is not possible, so do not leave them where your dog can chew them or leave them at a friend’s place.

Replacement is a chore at best, so keep what you’ve got in the bag. Also, a bag?! This razor deserves a case, the bag feels kind of cheap but for the quality that you get we are keeping our complaints minimal. A case would have been nice.

Warranty

This unit comes with a 5-year warranty that is fairly ironclad. If your unit stops working, unless you’ve been obviously abusing it, Phillips will repair or replace the unit. It is nice to know that the company stands behind its product, you really don’t see that enough these days.

What do you get in the box?

The package includes 14 cutting guards and attaching them to the razor proper is a breeze. Within seconds you can put the guard that you want in place and use it, no muss or fuss.

We think so. This is what you get inside the package:

  • A stainless steel grip
  • Full-sized trimmer
  • Cleaning brush
  • 2 stubble guards
  • 2 bodyguards
  • 6 wide hair guards
  • 2 beard guards
  • Ear and nose hair trimmer
  • Extra-wide trimmers (6)
  • Precision detail trimmer
  • Precision foil trimmer
  • Storage bag

The unit is designed to ‘do it all’ and it fits that niche well. So, how well does it shave? Is the design worth the price?

Philips Norelco 7000 Replacement Heads

Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000 vs Norelco 9000

Frankly, they are much the same unit, but with a few exceptions. First, the warranty is noticeable. You get a 10-year warranty with the 9000, and with self-sharpening blades this might well make upgrading worth it.

Norelco 9000

You are only talking about a 30 or 40 dollar difference, depending on where you make the purchase, and for 10 years of shaving that seems well worth the cost.

As far as grooming attachments, you get 2 more with the 9000. The 9000 includes an adjustable 3-7 millimeter comb as well as a ‘body shaver’ attachment. This seems like a small deal but it really increases the functionality.

If you have a beard or a goatee then the upgrade is well worth it. Other than these features, you are getting the same unit, but as the extra attachments may not be purchased individually you might want to consider going ‘whole hog’ and getting the 9000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this unit support 220 volts?

It is rated for 100-240 volts, if you are traveling then a converter is a good idea.

Does this unit shave ‘privates’ well?

Yes. This is a full-body shaver, you won’t experience ‘red bumps’ from using it. The Phillips Norelco is a solid shaver and performs as advertised.

Is the Norelco 7000 waterproof?

No. While you cannot use it in the shower, the individual parts maybe washed when you are cleaning it, but this is NOT a waterproof unit.

Does this unit come with any electronic indicators?

Good question! The answer is a resounding ‘yes’, this unit comes with an LED indicator that will let you know when the unit needs charging. Even if you should be alerted, a quick 5-minute charge is generally all you need to complete your shave, but we still recommend leaving it plugged in when not in use.

Our conclusion

The 7000 is excellent on its own but with the additional attachments included with the 9000 model and the doubled warranty, we recommend that you purchase the Norelco 9000 instead.

It is the best deal and with that warranty, you won’t need to replace it for 10 years, which is definitely worth the negligible price difference. For other Norelco reviews
